The Trey Chair looks like any other desk chair. Height adjustment, tilting, rotating, basically everything you find in a typical desk chair. Right? Wrong! The chair is a lot more than that. It can transform into a rocker chair, a foot stool, a side table or a laptop desk. The top part can be taken off the base, revealing an extra chair on it. The video on their website shows exactly how it works.
This chair is excellent for those who don't have that much space available. It's available in fabric or imitation leather. It costs $239 for the fabric version or $269 for the imitation leather version; more or less the same price you'd pay for a regular good quality desk chair.

Folder USB Drive
Art Lebedev Studios, creators of the insanely expensive Optimus Keyboard, have made a USB drive that's hopefully a bit less expensive. This drive not only holds folders, it looks like one!

Tiny tiny Cube PC
How small can a fully functional PC get? If you think ultraportable laptops are small, think again! This computer, built Shimafuji, is a complete PC crammed into a 5 cm cube. The computer comes with a 200 or 300 mHz 64-bit CPU, 64 megs of ram, 16 megs of internal flash memory and a CF card slot. Connections to the outside world are supplied through serial, USB, ethernet and VGA ports.
One can wonder what use a computer like this has. You obviously can't run Windows Vista on it and play a game of Supreme Commander. The OS for a machine like this would probably be a custom-built version of Linux, and it can obviously only be used for very specialized tasks.

FL500 Audio Player
MPIO has released the FL500, their latest portable audio player, in Japan. It is a flash-based player with 1 or 2 GB of memory and support for MP3 and WMA. No word about the battery, but it is probably powered by a built-in lithium battery. The most unusual feature is the triangular shape, however. Also, the display seems to blend with the casing, wich looks quite cool!

Voltage iPod Control Bags
I'm no huge fan of the iPod, but seeing what cool accessories are available, and the fact that the manufacturers of these things seem to completely ignore other types of audio players, makes me want to get one more and more.
The Voltage iPod Control Bags, wich are available as backpacks and messenger bags, have a built-in dock for your iPod and a remote control built in the straps! There's a connector in the dock to connect the player to the remote control. Now you can control your iPod without having to go through your bag every time!

Dippy egg set
Genius. Pure genius! That's what I thought when I first saw this. Everybody probably knows you can't boil eggs in a microwave oven. They will explode and you end up with an oven full of goo. This gadget, however, makes it possible! And on top of that, it also comes with a tool to cut perfect 'soldiers', or strips of toast to dip in the yolk.
How does it work? You place an egg in Boiley the Microwave Egg (the thing that looks like a chicken), fill the base with water, close it and place it in the oven. Instead of microwaving the egg directly, you heat the water that now surrounds the egg, boiling it to perfection! Faster, easier and a lot more energy-efficient than boiling in a pot of water!
The soldier cutter works by stamping perforations in a slice of bread. You then toast it like you're used to and when it's ready, you can break off perfectly shaped soldiers. Not only are they the perfect shape and size, they also don't crumble on the edges, since they have been toasted too!
Cooking times range from 3 minutes for soft boiled to 5 minutes for hard boiled, but this may depend on the power and the type of oven you have. Some experimentation may be necessary to get it perfect.

Wind powered cellphone charger
For those among us who like to go camping but don't want to withdraw completely from civilization, this is a must have. Mobile phone operator Orange has announced a wind-powered cellphone charger, as part of their sponsorship of the Glastonbury festival.
This small wind turbine can be mounted on a tent. It charges a battery, wich in turn is used to charge a cellphone. I guess the purpose of this is to keep a steady charging current; otherwise, placing an extra battery between the phone and the generator seems like a waste of energy.
What I would like to see is a combined wind-solar charger for regular nickel-metal hydride batteries. Something you could set up on a balcony or something and use to charge regular batteries.

Smallest HD video projector
With HDTV on the rise, video projectors are following. Projection Design has released the Action M25, the world's smallest HD projector so far.

This projector supports full HD resolution (1080p) and measures only 94mm(h) x 234mm(d) x 274mm(w). The picture source is a Texas Instruments DLP chip, and the brightness is rated at 1000 lumen. A price tag hasn't been released yet, but it will probably be as impressive as the projector itself!

Apple announces third party software for iPhone
The web is buzzing with Apple news and rumors, thanks to the WWDC. All eyes were on Steve Jobs, and everybody was waiting for announcements about the iPhone. Probably what everybody wanted to hear was the fact that there will be third party software for the device!
The third party applications will run in Safari, Apple's web browser. They won't be standalone applications for security and stability reasons. Also, it won't require any SDK's according to Jobs; it will all works with existing web development techniques, probably things like Ajax;

Firewire flash drive
USB 2.0 may be fast, but Firewire is even faster. This flash drive has a Firewire connection instead of the usual USB, making it lightning fast and perfect for transferring large files.
There are, however, two major drawbacks. First of all, not all computers have a Firewire port, while USB is everywhere. Second, it's expensive as hell. A 1GB Firewire stick costs about 100$, a lot more expensive than USB sticks.

Wicked ice cube trays
Say goodbye to boring old ice cubes! With these incredibly cool (pun not intended) ice cube trays you'll definitely draw at least some attention. By the way, could you still call these things 'cubes'? After all, they aren't really cubes. These trays are made of silicone rubber, so it's easy to get the cubes out. Trays are available for either a fish bone (4 cubes per tray) or a duck (8 cubes per tray).

256GB SSD!!!
Seems like the capacity of solid state drives is rising faster than I can write about it! Now PQI has launched a 256 GB drive! Earlier today I reported about a 64GB drive, but this one has four times that capacity.
This looks like a decent capacity for mainstream computers, but unfortunately these drives are still too expensive for general consumer use. Prices are dropping quickly, though, and if this trend continues these drives may replace harddrives within a few years!

64GB SSD
Sandisk, one of the leading manufacturers of storage media, has announced a 64GB solid state drive. Compared to regular hard drives, these are faster and use less power, making them ideal for laptops. Until now, solid state storage was used mainly in memory for cameras, mp3 players and pda's, but the technology is also starting to make the move to PC storage.
This may become a major competitor for hard drives if the capacity keeps increasing and the price drops. Higher speed, lower power consumption and no moving parts are quite some advantages. Also, flash memory is immune to shocks (wich is, again, an advantage in laptops).

Moshi Celesta Keyboard
This incredibly beautiful keyboard was spotted in a shop in Taiwan. Looks like the surface is some sort of brushed metal, either steel or aluminum.

Now that is what I call a cool keyboard! It works on Windows, MacOS X and Linux. By the way, there's a rumor going around that the new iMacs will have a brushed metal case, so this keyboard would go perfectly with that!

Yet another memory card!
Now this is just the thing we needed: one more memory card format! As if MMC, SD, CF, XD, Microdrive and Memorysticks weren't enough. The new card is the miCard, and is supposed to be compatible with SD card readers.
Of course, if it was just another memory card, nobody would care about it, but one thing sets it apart from other cards: the capacity. Initially, the cards will have 8 GB, wich is already huge compared to most other cards, but maximum capacity could be up to 2 TB! I can imagine at least one application, and that's HD video camera's. Let's just wait and see what hardware manufacturers think of it and of course, how much these cards will cost!

Corsair Flash Survivor survives beating
A while ago I posted an article about the Corsair Flash Survivor, claimed to be the toughest USB drive ever. Phoronix has tested exactly how tough it is!

Here's the torment the poor device had to endure: get drowned in a chlorinated pool, boiled in water for several minutes and a beating with a hammer. Apparently, the Corsair lives up to its promise, because it was still readable after all the abuse!

Self-powered torch
Most of us probably have a torch lying somewhere in a drawer or cupboard. It often lies there unused for years, and when you finally need it one day... dead batteries! This flashlight solves this problem. It doesn't contain batteries. Instead, there's a coil of copper wire in it, and a permanent magnet. When you shake the torch, the magnet bounces back and forth between two springs and passen through the coil, inducing a current. This charges a capacitor, wich then powers a led. Shaking the torch for half a minute generates enough electricity to power it for about five minutes.
