Evil looking pencil sharpener

This is one sick pencil sharpener, and her name is Sadie. The image speaks for itself. Insert a pencil into her eye socket, twist is and watch her vomit out pencil shavings. Now if only an eery green light would shine out of her eye sockets and a horrible scream of pain would come out of her mouth when you sharpen your pencil...

Another rant about the iPod

Okay, if you are an iPod fanboy, please skip this rant. If you're not, keep on reading.

A while ago, I considered buying an iPod. Luckily, I got my brain back and didn't. Instead, I got a Creative Zen, wich is a lot cheaper and does everything an iPod does, except turning rational people into brainless members of the Cult of Apple. Since then, I have learned to hate the iPod. No, hating is not the right word. I loathe the iPod. No, even that doesn't express how I feel about it. Words simply can't describe how I feel about it.
Don't get me wrong, the iPod does whatever it's supposed to do. It plays music and videos. The new one does even more, but let's be honest, nobody buys it because of that. If you buy an MP3 player, you expect it to play MP3's. The rest may be nice but unnecessary. The point is, there are many other players that do the exact same thing (and often a lot cheaper) but don't get as much attention. Why? Because of the fucking Apple logo! Put an Apple logo on the worst piece of crap ever designed and it will still sell.
Today, I visited the Media Market. If you have never heard of it, it's one of the biggest electronics stores of Europe. A while ago, riots almost broke out when they opened a new store in Berlin. I bought a set of speakers for my new computer (I still used the cheap speakers from my old computer), but that doesn't really matter. I was also looking for a remote control for my Creative Zen Vision M. When I'm on my bike, I keep it in my backpack, so a remote control would come in handy, and I knew something like that was available. Only, it's impossible to find! A huge rack of accessories for the iPod, and the only accessories for other players were battery chargers. Docking stations, speaker sets, FM transmitters, remote controls, cases, everything for the iPod. Almost nothing for other players.
But that's not all. Whenever I'm using my MP3 player, people ask me if it's an iPod. And when they do, I have to fight the urge to punch them in the face. Do they realize that they are other MP3 players besides the overhyped iPod? Well, I got news for you: THERE ARE! And guess what, they are cheaper and better! All you stupid Apple fanboys should get some fucking common sense. Apple makes mediocre products at best, and they can afford to because they know their discliples will buy them no matter what. If they put an Apple logo on a log of wood, called it the iLog and charged $1000 for it (and lowered the price to $600 a few months later) they would sell a million of them on the first day, complete with a horde of mindless cult members camping on the sidewalk to get their very own piece of fucking wood with an Apple logo on it.
Anyway, to recap everything: I hate the iPod, I didn't find a remote control for my Creative Zen Vision M, and all Apple fanboys are a bunch of pathetic losers. Deal with it!

Attack of the Corporate Zombies

A while ago, I mentioned The Cubes, a fun set to construct your own cubicle farm. But what is a cube farm without cube dwellers? Some figures were included, but everybody knows what makes the perfect cube jockey: a mindless, braindead creature. In other words, a zombie! These zombies make a fine addition to any cube farm to carry out all the jobs that nobody else wants to do. Or perhaps they are an unplanned side-effect of your company's top-secret biological warfare department. Don't worry, we'll send in Milla Jovovich and she'll take care of the evil undead threath in no time!

Life-size princess Leia figure

Star Wars fans, rejoice! Something everyone secretly has been dreaming about ever since he saw the movies for the first time is now available: a life-sized princess Leia figure! It's about 1.5 meters tall and despite the fact that it's a limited edition collectible it will cost only $800. I have seen AT-AT scale models that cost more! Unfortunately, she'll wear her white dress and not the slave costume from Return of the Jedi...

External recycle bin

While this may not be the most useful gadget in the world, it's sure a very original idea! This thing is basically an external harddrive that connects to your computer through Bluethooth. When you delete a file, it's sent this drive instead of to the recycle bin! Blue leds on the side of the drive indicate how much space is left. The drive is shaped like a recycle bin (of course) and has a capacity of 250 gigabytes.

Solid State drives in Alienware computers

Alienware makes lightning fast but very expensive computers, and this one beats them all. The already very impressive Area-51 and Aurora systems now can be equipped with solid state drives instead of the traditional harddrives. Solid state drives are faster, quiter and much, much more expensive than harddrives. Adding a 64 gigabyte SSD will set you back about $1700. This better be the fastest pc ever! And if that's not enough, you can put two 64 gigabyte drives in a raid-0 array!

PayPerPost rules!

A while ago, I started putting sponsored posts on this blog from time to time. Before that, I also put quite a lot of them on another, now discontinued, weblog. There are a lot of companies that pay bloggers for writing articles, but my favorite blog marketing site is still Pay Per Post. I signed up with it a bit over a year ago, after I discovered it through del.icio.us. I was a bit skeptical at first, but it didn't take that long before I was making a nice amount of cash. Okay, I didn't exactly get rich, but it's still a nice extra.
So, how does it work? You browse through a list of offers and if you find one that you want to take, you can check out what the requirements are (minimum length, links, images, minimum pagerank, ...) and then reserve the opportunity. The next step is writing the blog post and then submitting the title and link to Pay Per Post. It then gets reviewed and if it's okay, you get paid thirty days later. Payments are processed through Paypal.
For many opportunities, there's a minimum requirement for Google pagerank. Luckily, Pay Per Post has a forum where all sorts of tricks and techniques for creating a good blog and obtaining decent rankings are discussed, so with some effort this shouldn't really be a problem. And, best of all, even for low pageranks there are plenty of opportunities! The highest rank I ever achieved was three, and it still made me a very nice amount of money.

Is Creative stupid?

Interesting thing happened today. I was checking Creative's website for a new speaker system, and apparently, some of the systems came with an iPod dock. Said so literally on the website: "connects to iPod". So basically, they are giving away free advertisements for the iPod, while they also make MP3 players (the Zen) that are cheaper and better than the iPod! The most logical thing for them to do would be making their speakers connect to their own MP3 players, but no. Doesn't make any sense at all! Has the iPod monopoly reached such a level that Creative doesn't even realize they have a potential iPod killer? Their players do everything an iPod does, only for a much lower price. I bought a Creative Zen Vision with a 30 gig harddrive a while ago. Cost me 200€, while a 30 gig iPod would have cost 280€. Quite a significant difference! Same goes for the Zen Stone, wich is an ultra compact MP3 player like the iPod Shuffle, only a lot cheaper.

Zelda Twilight Princess figures

If you own a Wii, chances are you also have The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I bought this game with my Wii and it took me about two weeks to finish it. Meanwhile, I finished it three more times and it nevers becomes boring. And when I saw this incredibly cool set of figures at Think Geek, I just had to order it!
The set contains four 10 cm tall figures: Link, Zelda, Zant and Link in wolf form with Midna on his back. The figures are very detailed and are officially licensed by Nintendo as collectibles.

USB Stealth Switch

One of the worst things that can happen to you when you're supposed to be working is getting caught playing minesweeper, chatting or surfing the internet. Even if you try to alt-tab to a spreadsheet full of boring numbers, it always looks suspicious. And of course, the open apps remain visible on the taskbar. With this device, such problems are avoided.
The USB Stealth Switch is a foot-operated switch that you place under your desk. The software that comes with it will automatically hide any suspicious applications from both the desktop and taskbar and also pop up any other program, so it looks like you're really working. A must have for chronic procastrinators!

Canon SD800 IS Ixus 850 IS

This is one of the top models in compact digital cameras. The Canon SD800 Ixus is equipped with the most advanced Canon image processor to date, the Digic III. It has a 7.1 megapixel CCD sensor, 3.8x optical zoom, 4x digital zoom, 2.5 inch LCD display and a rechargeable Li-ion battery.
Accessories included with the camera are the software, a carrying pouch, an AC adapter, a 16 megabyte memory card and a strap. Honestly, I don't really understand why manufacturers still include a 16 megabyte memory card. Why don't they just offer different bundles with a large card instead? A 16 meg card is useless, and large ones are cheap as hell.
Shopping.com has compared prices in over twenty stores that sell this camera, along with recommendations. Also mentioned is wich stores offer free shipping, wich always comes in handy. And of course, you can also find reviews by both consumers and professionals.
